Numídico Bessone Borges de Medeiros Amorim nasceu na Lagoa, ilha de São Miguel Açores a 12 de Agosto de 1913 e faleceu em Lisboa a 1 de Janeiro de 1985. Estudou escultura na Escola Superior de Belas Artes de Lisboa e depois pintura na Escola Superior de Belas Artes do Porto. Aluno brilhante, foi distinguido com o Prémio Nacional de Belas Artes, sendo seleccionado como bolseiro do Instituto de Alta Cultura para estudar em Roma. Casou com Maria Giovanna Giuseppina Emília Brugnara, com quem teve uma filha. Em Roma, onde também foi bolseiro do governo italiano, cursou escultura na Academia de Belas Artes (1946 a 1949), frequentando depois um curso de especialização em medalhística na Escola de Arte de Medalha de Roma (1950 e 1951).

A sua obra foi apresentada em várias exposições internacionais e está representada no Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea de Lisboa, no Museu Carlos Machado, no Museu de José Malhoa e em diversas galerias. Pertenceu ao Centro de Estudos de Arte e Museologia do Instituto de Alta Cultura, à Associazione Artística Internazionale de Roma e à Accademia Mondiale degli Artísti e Professionisti da Accademia Tiberiana di Roma. Foi ainda membro de honra da União Portuguesa do Estado da Califórnia. Numídico Bessone é lembado na toponímia do concelho de Oeiras, que lhe dedica uma rua em Terrugem, na feguesia de Paço de Arcos.

Numídico Bessone Borges de Medeiros Amorim was born in Lagoa, on the island of São Miguel in the Azores, on 12 August 1913, and died in Lisbon on 1 January 1985. He studied sculpture at the Lisbon School of Fine Arts and subsequently painting at the Porto School of Fine Arts. A brilliant student, he was awarded the National Prize for Fine Arts and was selected as a scholarship holder by the Institute of High Culture to study in Rome. He married Maria Giovanna Giuseppina Emília Brugnara, with whom he had a daughter. In Rome, where he was also a scholarship holder of the Italian government, he studied sculpture at the Academy of Fine Arts (1946 to 1949), before attending a specialisation course in medal making at the Rome School of Medal Art (1950 and 1951). His work has been featured in various international exhibitions and is held in the National Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon, the Carlos Machado Museum, the José Malhoa Museum and in various galleries. He was a member of the Centre for Art and Museology Studies at the Institute of High Culture, the Associazione Artistica Internazionale in Rome and the Accademia Mondiale degli Artisti e Professionisti of the Accademia Tiberiana in Rome. He was also an honorary member of the Portuguese Union of the State of California. Numídico Bessone is commemorated in the place names of the municipality of Oeiras, which has named a street after him in Terrugem, in the parish of Paço de Arcos.
